Coaching
One of the most exciting things we do within Cru is train our volunteers and students how to help fulfill the great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 by making disciples. In order for spiritual multiplication to occur on college campuses, students must be coached. Then they must be trained how to pass it on and how to coach someone else.
“And the things you’ve heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to reliable men.” (2 Tim 2:2)
Reasons for Coaching
1) It’s Biblical (Matt 28: 18-20)- Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
2) It’s what Jesus did. He spent most of his time with 12 men.
3) It’s best for your local movement.
Coaching does at least 3 things:
a) It provides healthy, authentic community.
b) It provides for movement growth. If 20 leaders coach 2 each, we will have 40 leaders next year.
c) It provides movement longevity
Coaching is the most effective way to develop people (not through weekly meetings or conferences, although they help develop people too). We want the students you coach to become “doers” not just “hearers” of the Word. We coach students who already believe and belong now we want to teach them how to bless others.
